Be certain you need the CM-500 B/W carafe and not the XCC-12

The carafe of the CM-500 B/W has a bump in the lid to operate the pause and serve valve at the bottom of the filter funnel. The XCC-12 carafe lid has no bump. These carafes cannot be interchanged unless you kept your original handle and lid. If you have the handle and lid you can use the carafes on either model. Be careful when you remove and replace the handle as the strap must not be too tight or too loose.

My old 12-cup carafe developed a crack and I was delighted to find Gevalia offers a replacement. I didn't notice that it was for the STAINLESS STEEL brewer, which mine is not. That meant the top of the replacement carafe would not open the grounds basket, which meant all the coffee stayed in the grounds basket. HOWEVER ... I had not thrown the old carafe away yet, so I just took the top off it and put it on the new carafe. Problem solved and we are back in business!

I got my Stainless Steel Gevalia coffee maker over 5 years ago, it has worked perfectly. The only thing that I didn't like, was when I cleaned the front of the coffee maker( where the options are for menu,program, etc), and the lettering rubbed off!! So now I can't see what's what. I only used a damp dish cloth with a little drop of dish detergent. Can Gevalia send me a label with the lettering that I can attach? That's a good idea!!

I have used this product for many years. I just recently broke my carafe. I am disappointed that it is out of stock at this time. I haven't been able to find a replacement, yet. It's been a long week, whew!! This product has been a special part of my mornings for at least 7 plus years. I am determined to get a replacement carafe. This product survived a kitchen fire 5 years ago and continued to work without any problems!!! I truly beleive in taking care of what takes care of me. I will get a replacement carafe. This product has become a part of my life that I can depend on no matter what. Thanks, Gevalia. Please help me continue my enjoyment of a great cup of java each day.

Broken Carafe

I too had broken my carafe and when I called they were out of stock and said that I would have to keep calling in to see if or when they had more I was ready to throw out the coffee maker. but I did find a conpatiable one that works just fine can't say what brand or were I got it but if you look on line you will find it to thats how I found it.

We took the unit out of the box and it came on briefly and then quit. It will not work at all now.. I would not recommend this unit to anyone. Waste of money!

If you get a brand new product and it doesn't work properly from the onset, SEND IT BACK! Don't complain that the product is junk, and you wouldn't recommend it to anyone. You got a lemon - it happens! Gevalia will replace it!

I have had this machine for 5 years with no problems. I love the coffee, I love the machine and have not one complaint. I even have my picky in-laws sending me the coffee flavors they do not enjoy (the acidity is a problem for them, is all, in the darker roasts) and so I luck out and have all of the coffee I could ever need. I don't anticipate ever having to buy another machine. Any other reviewers who have had problems should have called customer service, because they would have been taken care of immediately.

I have had the coffee maker for a month now and have one complaint. Why is the window for seeing and setting brew time NOT BACKLIT?! This is a major pain because I [you] have to get crouched down in front of it in order to see the numbers and set the start time for brewing. I am wondering if MY unit has a 'glitch/defect' ie every other one has a backlight? I have owned and given as gifts MANY programmable coffee makers and this is the first company I have ever seen that didn't include this feature.

I would like to order the replacement carafe, and it it listed as out of stock. I noticed that another customer mentioned it was out of stock a year ago. I am hoping that it has not been out of stock for a year,.....I need a new carafe! I cannot even place my order for it to get "on backorder". Kind of frustrating!

I, grudgingly, ordered the Gevalia coffee/ free coffeemaker kit about 4-5 years ago. Wiped out the coffee in short order and have been using my free coffeemaker all this time probably 4-5 years. What a bargain that was! I accidentally bashed into my "must-have," solid-granite countertop with it the other night and it only broke into a thousand pieces until it came into contact with my "gotta-have," overpriced, porcelain-tile, kitchen floor when it went from a thousand to a couple million more or less pieces. So I have to order another pot, bless my heart. Unlike some contributors, believe it or not-(omg what e discovery for mankind) there are ways to get hot, fresh coffee out of the maker into a CONTAINER until you can afford to replace your expired one, which I have been doing for about a week until I get paid again. No I won't reveal this deep, marvelous secret, you are doomed to throw on clothes and stumble to the convenience store for your first cup because 98%- no thats too generous, 99.5% of us are so brainwashed into thinking that whenever there is a blip in our daily routine with our marvelous gadgetry, life ceases right then and there.
Try stepping out of your comfort zone occassionally folks and living your life for a few minutes or hours or a day now and again in the "what if I didn't have this or that," what would I do? What did my grandparents do? It is VERY refreshing and encouraging because with a little thought and engenuity(sp.?) you will be amazed what you can live quite comfortably without, or by simply finding a parallel method of doing something. I digress.

Curious admonishment and philosophy from one who so openly acquiesced to the "must have" granite and over-priced tile. Interesting that you didn't find ways to adapt and get along without such things as THESE so that you could afford a coffee carafe replacement.
We like this coffee maker very much - especially in the context of the price - but I broke the plastic hinge on our carafe such that the lid can't be attached, and am growing frustrated at the "catch it if you can" availability of the black carafe replacement. I guess I should subscribe to Copperheadroad's philosophy, not worry that it doesn't match, and order the white one instead? I am "making do" quite nicely, however, if I am careful in how I place the lid on the pot before brewing. However, there is "really big mess" potential in this, so I hope the black carafe materializes online again soon.

I agree. I have had 2 as well. The 1st one lasted 4 months and the last one 3 months. Guess I wil go back to a store bought coffee maker. all of them have lasted over 12 months with no issues

I have had trouble with the coffee makers too, I found you MUST keep the viniger run through it at least every 2 weeks
I buy water now and find that helps A lot. But you have to keep the minerals cleaned out. If Not you replace them about every three months,like clock work

For such good coffee, you have a really bad coffeemaker. Even though the price was right-free- the carafe is not an easy item to replace. I have found no replacements other than Gevalia's, and I don't want to wait 2 weeks to have another cup of coffee. I'll spend a little more money and just buy a new brand name coffeemaker.

i had my gevalia coffeemaker for 7 years never had a problem untill i craked the glass on the sink my bad . i am not replacing the carafe because the hot plate underneath is rusting and not staying that hot anymore.i miss my gevalia
coffee and pot just cant afford a new one right now will have to go for one of the cheap inferior ones

I am very disappointed with the 12 cup coffee maker I purchased. Every 3rd or 5th pot brewed will dump the grounds into the coffee as the water erupts into the grounds rather than drizzles, causing the grounds to overflow into the pot. What a nuisance this is as I have to make another pot of coffee and wasting time and money. I've tried spreading the grounds more evenly but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this happening.

I am wondering if you, and others, realize that the paper #4 cone filters have a reason for the 2 sides with the '////////////////' markings on them. They are there so that you FOLD them over BEFORE placing the filters in the basket. This insures the tightest fit possible in the basket and prevents the filter from 'folding in on itself' which can/will result in grounds being dumped into the carafe as it brews. I have told too many people to count about this, they have used this type of filter for years, and they NEVER KNEW WHAT THE MARKS [on filter sides] were for! This might NOT be part of your problem, but I felt it was certainly worth mentioning and I hope it helps someone. Good luck ;)

I tried turning the filter so the seam is to the back of the grounds holder thingy. It has helped and I haven't had an overflow of grounds into my coffee since.

Start out with the coldest water you can. Hot water is more likely to "dump" as you described. On the other hand I know they are poorly made and unpredictable. I only take advantage of incentive campaigns that involve the actual coffee and free shipping. You can't go wrong with that.

Your coffee is great! I had your coffee maker for about 6 years, always a good brew. Broke the carafe while moving and haven't ordered a replacement yet. I think it would be worth ordering.

poor carafe pour spout design

The coffee is great, and the coffeemaker works well, but. . . the quality control on the carafe lip design or manufacture of the pouring spout needs to be reviewed. The carafe drips coffee all down the edge of the pot, no matter how quickly or slowly you pour, making serving or refilling at the table messy and annoying. Supposedly, the coffeemaker has a one year warranty, and hopefully this defect has been corrected.

I have had about 3 free coffee pots from Gevalia and along with some great coffee, I have never had a problem with anything. I have had the coffee makers for years and actually gave one away to my daughter so that I could get a new one. I love their product and would recommend it to anyone!!!

Great coffee - Great accessories

I have enjoyed Gevalia coffee & have had several of the coffee makers. Each time I got a new one - about every 2nd year or so, I passed my old one on - still working... and never broke a glass carafe. I used them everyday & sometimes more... you can't even leave it on toooooo long -as it has an automatic shut off.
Come on - people - they have great coffee & I never had a bad experience with the accessories... I still use one!

Carafe Warmer Plate deteriorates

Besides the Carafe not pouring well, the warming plate deteriorates rather quickly. I have had the coffee maker for 2 years and after 1 year the plate is destroyed. This coffee maker is definately not worth the amount of money they are quoting, but what do you expect for being "free".

Very reliable product. Have owned for 3+ years, just now ordering a replacement carafe. I see two opportunities for Gevalia to address minor design flaws in a future production run:
1. The carafe handle failed because of a nominalized upper plastic retaining leg. The lower securing point (an encompassing metal band) is a superior connection point. The plastic upper connection point needs some beef. Or perhaps an upper metal band.
2. When filling the coffee maker with water, the carafe spout permits a small percentage of water to drip down along the front-outside of the carafe, making a pool on the countertop. A wider spout with a different pitch could eliminate this minor (but recurring) annoyance.

I agree with the above comment on the leaking of water when pouring it into the coffeemaker with the carafe. I must always put a towel under it to catch the drips which would form a pool of water on the counter if I didn't. This is the second coffeemaker we have had from Gevalia because our original was taken out by lightning. The first one we had was a different carafe and coffeemaker, and although very similar that one didn't leak ever. I would advise to use that model. Also, the original had a green light when putting it on with a red one for auto and now the new one has a red light for both. (Just liked that concept on #1.)

I have used this product in the past, and have really enjoyed the coffee, if you want a good flavor coffee this is the best, and the coffee maker has lasted for years,untill now after a long time it quit heating and for some time i quit drinking coffee but have started back so I plan to use this product again

I have been with Gevalia since the early 80s and still have the original maker...it still works...no timer, tho. I also have the stainless one with the timer at the base...have had it for 5-6 years...it still works...no need to replace carafe. Only two issues, yes water does sometimes spill from the spout to the table, (decided since only sometimes it must be operator error) and pot must sit at angle to engage spring on bottom of basket or water fills up the basket and overflows. Otherwise...woohoo!

Product breaks very easily

I have never broken a coffee carafe. This is the first time for me and I am 67 yrs wise! Simply bumped the sink lightly. Have enjoyed your coffees and your coffee maker.
